What is a Bildungsgutschein?

The education voucher is a state-sponsored initiative for the unemployed, job seekers or employees who are threatened by unemployment.

Through the education voucher, the employment agency or job center assures to cover certain costs for professional training. In this way, you can attend our programme free of charge since the training costs are covered by the Bildungsgutschein. 

Who can receive a Bildungsgutschein?

In order to receive an education voucher from the German employment agency, certain criteria must be met: 

  • You are currently threatened with unemployment (with proof), or your job is dying out
  • You are currently unemployed and want to re-enter the job market
  • You need further training or retraining because you do not have an appropriate vocational qualification

How can I apply for an education voucher (Bildungsgutschein)?

In order to apply for an education voucher, you must already be registered as a job seeker with the Employment Agency or Job Center. You will be assigned to a contact person automatically upon registration. 

1. Book your appointment

Contact your advisor and book an appointment at the Job Center to find out if you qualify for an education voucher.

2. Prepare yourself!
You should prepare well for your interview. Your advisor should understand why you want to do this training and how it relates to your previous career. We recommend that you prepare following documents:
  • Identification (Passport etc.)
  • Anmeldebescheinigung (if requested)
  • Your updated CV and related certificates
  • Information brochure about this programme
  • Course number and course ID
  • German Translator (if needed)
  • A motivation letter (optional)

What costs are covered by the education voucher?

The education voucher covers all resource-related costs, such as the cost of training, assessment training, travel costs, any accommodation costs, and (if required) childcare costs during the time that classes are being held.

How should I present my arguments for the Bildungsgutschein?

It is very important to know that there is no legal right to the education voucher.

When trying to make a convincing case to your advisor, you should always outline WHY you are suited for this training, HOW it will help you improve your chances in the job market, and WHAT you need to be successfully employed after completing your training. You should also demonstrate that your current skills are a good foundation on which to build.

What happens if I do not receive the education voucher?

If you receive a negative answer, you should always ask for the exact reasons why your application was rejected. In some situations, the consultant may need more information about the labor market situation or the profile of the educational institution. Get the rejection in writing and contact us. We will be happy to support you.

Do I need to translate my documents for my appointment?

It is very possible that you may be asked to provide your certifications in translated version. This requirement is defined by your advisor. We recommend that you talk to your advisor first as it is possible to receive financial support for translation fees.
